This is an extension of my previous article on Successful Indian Brands, for which readers had suggested to add more brands and to cover additional sectors. So, I decided to come up with an extensive list of top MNC brands in India. I have categorized the MNC brand list sector-wise and added a few pointers for each category. Also, the below list is not ranked or listed on any parameter. It will help you plan a successful product or brand.

Most of these FMCG brands are occupying top positions with the largest market share in their respective categories. These brands have the widest distribution networks, supply chain, presence in almost all channels (wholesale, neighbourhood stores, online). The key USP is the consistency in quality and presence across all price points.

Hygiene segment has gained traction due to Covid-19. This prompted brands who were dominant in the handwash segment to extend their offerings to quickly to sanitisers and disinfectants, responding quickly to the demand of sanitisation products.

Sony, Samsung and LG, in particular, are well-recognised consumer durable global brands. They have ramped up their presence in India spotting opportunities in the under-penetrated market with large consumer base and demographic advantages. Samsung and LG have been a remarkable success story with large and innovative offerings and rapid product launches recognising customers changing behaviour. These companies set up their large plants in India which were also meant to meet export demands. Various incentives offered by the Government also encourage setting up plants in India and even shifting manufacturing facilities from home countries.

India is one of the top markets in the world for laptops. The main reasons for the exponential growth of laptop demand were convenience and mobility.

Top Mobile Phone Brands

Nokia and Siemens were the first to launch feature phones in India. Mobile phone with its novelty factors soon took the country by storm. India soon emerged as the fastest-growing market for mobile phones.

The subsequent launch of smartphones coupled with one of the cheapest voice and data call charges, radically transformed the phone market mobile and India is now the second or third fastest mobile phone market in the world market with penetration of more than 100% household.

Blackberry was the first smartphone launched in India and was rapidly adopted by businesses and their employees. Later, the market was flooded by Korean, Japan and China made phones, manufacturer.

The above-listed brands currently occupy the largest market share due to rich features, convenience, price and surrounding ecosystems of apps, cameras, internet connections, digital access etc.

Brands became successful due to availability at various price points, the large base of retail and service stores, easy financing and launches of various models in response to improving technology and customer’s needs. Businesses like food ordering, investments, banking and commerce transactions are carried on mobiles. The data usage growth is witnessing exponential growth facilitated by people working from home due to lockdown and doing everything from office conferences, buying groceries, the provision on mobile.

  1. You can also add the new Edtech brands like Unacademy, Byjus, and more. Also, there are so many new brands that can make the list like CRED, Dream 11.

  2. But, I guess the top Edtech brands and other brands mentioned in above comment are surely top brands in India but I don’t think we can call them MNC. Can we?
